The Gaia Prom 2009, known as Promageddon, was a Gaia Online event.
Overview[]
An announcement explained the upcoming event and gave a hint of what was to come with the release of the event landing page. Along with this announcement was 40 Gaia Cash given for free. However it was to be spent during the event as it would be redacted on June 30.
The event was sponsored by Skittles™ and hosted by NPC:Ivan, the GRS Accountant. He claims that with the left over funds from the Bailout 2009 event he was able to turn the GRS Headquarters into a Gala Masquerade Ball.[1] And there were two special guest, the musicians Jeff Miyahara and Bentley Jones provided the music for the dancing game.
The event itself involved a prom themed atmosphere and took place in the flash space GRS Headquarters. There were various areas created specifically for the event and one area included a dance mini-game that involved the use of keyboard clicks. And a new feature named 'Lovetron 9000' conducted by NPC:Bludeau who was modified by NPC:Liam.
There were also three manga updates in relation to the event.

The event ended on June 3 and with that the last manga was released with Liam and NPC:Sam getting to dance together.

The feelings about the event were largely mixed. While some were happy to see the return of the dance game, others still had a problem with how it was set up, in that the scrolling for the arrows is horizontal and not vertical like one would see in Dance Dance Revolution. The music was both praised and criticized- though it is clear that many liked the music and stopped by the profiles of the musicians to pay their compliments.
The flash space environments were liked for their artwork and set up and the reviews on the items were mixed as well.
There was some criticism with the giving of free Gaia Cash; noting that it was a lure to bring in customers, mainly young children which made up half the site.[2]
Technical issues[]

- There was a minor issue with the results for the Lovetron quiz; causing people to receive the incorrect avatar gender of their choosing - FIXED.
- There were some issues with equipping the event items - RESOLVED.[3]
Flash space
- There were reports of flash space lag.[4]
- The dance mini-game was not loading after some attempts.[5]
Trivia[]
- According to Bentley Jones' blog the event was originally suppose to start on May 18 but there were issues (unknown, but likely a problem with the Flash environment).[6]
- The event got some outside attention with the mention of Jones being a guest.[7]
- This event marks the first event to have Gaia Cash given out for free. The first time free GC was given out was when it was introduced in November 2007.
- The results during the Lovetron 9000 quiz marched Gaians with a lot staff members. This was likely due to any prior testing phases.
- The two areas in the flash space were later implemented for a Towns 2 update. They can be accessed through keywords[8]
